  Why are atheists so intent on scorning "believers"?

  until recently, i had never encountered this word "believers" used as it is being used on this board, to describe pejoratively a group of people.

  it's not clear to me whether they scorn all who have a faith of some sort.

  do they include buddhists, hindus, followers of the baha'i faith, followers of the cargo cult, native americans along with christians, or is it just christians who are honoured with this epithet?.

  You're onto something there, NC. I think many believers are lazy and want to believe what they believe without any resistance. They don't WANT to go and research. Instead of reading 100 hard books, they only want to read 1.

  If athesists would just shut up, they could live with their beliefs in peace and not have to defend them. Well that's just not reality. It goes against their own book too. 1Peter 3:15 says: " Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."

  That should be a wake up call to Christians. They should be able to give an answer. They should also be able to do it with gentleness and respect. Sadly, many don't follow both or one of those things. They either CAN'T give an answer to why they believe what they believe. Or when they give an answer, they attack the other person. Especially when forced to deal with complex issues.

  over 40 yrs baptized, service, builds, talks and talks and talks that i put countless hours of prep into, elder, meetings, assemblies,----you all know.

  but through it all i never bought the whole truth idea 100%.

  no matter what it was, meeting, service, assemblies, i just couldn't wait for it to end.

  This thread fascinates me... Obviously you would NEVER have had admitted what you wrote above while you were still in. It just makes me wonder how many other elders, MS's, bethelites, pioneers, etc... feel this same way.

  There is the appearance of unity. There is the appearance that everyone is happy and LOVE being JWs. Just look at the JWs that respond on youtube videos. It appears that they love love love being JWs. But more and more as I read these posts it looks like the reality is that there are thousands that don't buy it.

  Can we look at FAITH in a more practical way?

  belief is spackle.

  you can't see the crack in your thinking when you exercise faith.

  consequently, a person of faith can not, must not, will not allow others the option of non-binary references.. .

  FAITH is denying the reality of alternate explanations to yourself and everybody else.

  The biblical definition of faith is the ASSURED expectation of things hoped for. It should be assured. It should be based on evidence, whether others accept that same evidence or not.

  I think you should be able to say anything to God in prayer. He knows what you're thinking anyway. Moses asked God to kill him, when he was throwing a fit...

  The WT somewhere used to talk about inapropriate prayers and that it was wrong to say "Hello, Jehovah" or "Give Jesus my love!" or "Have a great day, Jehovah!"
